Spirit in the City Festival - Thursday 5th June - Saturday 7th June 2008 - For the third year now the West End Catholic Churches are organising the Spirit in the City Festival. Through a series of events in their churches and on the streets, the parishes aim to reach out and take their place in central London in a unique way. It is a faith celebration during which we evangelise by our presence as a community, and bring faith directly into the busyness of the world around us. In this way we invite people we meet to reconnect with God as part of their journey of conversion. The event will begin on Thursday afternoon 5th June and conclude on Saturday evening 7th June 2008. On Saturday 7th June afternoon 12-6pm at Leicester Square a Catholic festival will take place, with an entire afternoon of performances to the general public. These will include Christian music, art and drama. On Thursday and Friday evenings, when the West End comes alive, we too will celebrate our faith in the churches and on the streets by, for example, processions. This is a unique opportunity to celebrate our Catholic faith in our city. For more information phone 020 7025 1596 or go online to www.spiritinthecity.org

MONEY SAVING IDEAS FOR 2008

HERE'S THE DEAL, IF YOU CLICK ON ONE OF THE MONEY SAVING IDEAS BELOW AND AS A RESULT SAVE MONEY, HOW ABOUT GIVING 10% OF THE SAVINGS YOU HAVE MADE BY SENDING A CHEQUE TO ST THOMAS MORE CHURCH AND SAYING THAT THIS WEBSITE SAVED YOU MONEY YOU WOULD OTHERWISE HAD SPENT? IF NOT, AT THE VERY LEAST TELL PEOPLE ABOUT THE PARISH WEBSITE.

1. Are you flying somewhere and looking for all available flights from and to your destination, well the following website checks 660 airliners with prices both via an agent and with the airline very quickly. www.dohop.com Still check other websites such as www.lastminute.com This site is an international site.

2. Looking to buy a book check out Book Butler. Please re-check delivery costing especially if you are buying more than one book and/or the amount you are spending is above Amazon free delivery entitlement. This site works for Germany, Great Britain, France, Netherlands, Spain, USA and Canada.

3. Phoning from the UK to another country. Now if you live in the inner city of London you can purchase International Phone cards (these have expiry dates once activated) which are good value, otherwise you can use a software like Skype and talk using a computer to a computer. Alternatively there is this website where you phone an access number from your Landline Telephone (I would not use a mobile as I think it would be too expensive) and dial your number followed by the # key on your phone. The last time I checked one could phone many European countries, Canada and the USA for 0.5p per min, Barbados and Nigeria 4p per min, Jamaica and Ghana 3p per min, International Callchecker. *

4. Phoning from a UK Landline to a UK Mobile phone (Cell phone) during peak times on a weekday cost roughly 15p per minute, on a BT Landline, using the UK Callchecker the cost can be less than half the price (the last time I checked it was 6p per minute). PLEASE NOTE IT WILL MORE THAN LIKELY BE CHEAPER TO JUST DAIL DIRECT FROM A BT LANDLINE DURING THE WEEKEND AS THEIR WEEKEND RATE IS ROUGHLY 5 PENCE PER MINUTE*

5. If you would like to know what the supermarket bargains are (eg. Buy One Get One Free Offers) before you shop click the following www.madaboutbargains.co.uk and there is much more to the website to explore. *

5. Before you buy something online, check to see whether there is an online discount voucher code at www.myvouchercodes.co.uk *

6. www.mysupermarket.co.uk helps you compare your shopping price if you get your supermarket shop delivered to your door. *

7. Buying a camera? If you know what you want to buy in the UK checkout Camera Price Buster. Before buying, I recommend these independent camera review sites:

i) Ken Rockwell

ii) By Thom

iii) Steves Digicams

iv) DP Review

I have found buying from New York cheaper on occassions after paying delivery along with HM Revenue & Customs VAT and Duty but please note guarantees and warranty (I know this is the case for Nikon) may only be valid for country of purchase namely USA. B&H and Adorama are two shops I have dealt with no problems. But please note, I don't know what sort of hassle would happen if something went wrong. If you are going to somewhere like Dubai, Singapore, Hong Kong do your research here and buy wherever it is cheaper.

8. My favourite website is www.moneysavingexpert.com *

9. If you have any ideas to save money, email the webmaster.

* This site works only for UK residents but if you viewing from abroad and have friends in the UK please tell them about our website.

A Letter from Fr Alex Thomas - Bulawayo, Zimbabwe
Dear Fr. Clive, Greetings from Bulawayo. Here we are trying our best to keep our heads above the water in this sinking ship. Things are quite tough here from every corner. We got bit of rain but very far from what is required. From this week we have only water supplies once a week for few hours. Thank you very much for the donations you sent into our bank. It amounted to Z$ 7, 500, 000 000.00 (Seven Billion Five Hundred Million Dollars). We are very much humbled by your generosity. As the situation here is quite serious. Most urgent need is food. We have to provide food for our orphans. It is not easy to get food either. We will try our best to get it from various corners. Now the schools are closing for the year this week. When the schools reopen in the first week of January we will use the money again for the school fees, text books, uniforms etc. for our under privileged children. Since the prices here are ever changing I will try to get whatever available now and stock it to be distributed when the schools re open. Your hard work and kind gesture for our cause here is highly appreciated. May God bless you all. Fr. Alex Thomas (Total Sent £2259.63p)
