Groups meeting on church premises

The Secular Franciscan Order meets in the Church on the first Sunday of the mounth. Members of the order come from this parish and from other parishes.

The Association of Mary Help of Christians, which was founded by Saint John Bosco in Turin and started by the
Ursuline Sisters of St Angela Merici in England. Mother Eugenia founded Association of Mary Help of Christian here in Manor House at the Ursuline convent on Adolphus Road nearby. The association meets once a month and celebrates the Feast of Our Lady in May each year with a well-attended mass in the church on a Sunday afternoon.

The parish also hosts other organisations and local community groups, offering help with space for meetings etc.

Involvement in the wider community

The parish is proud to be involved, with other faiths and community groups, in TELCO, The East London Community Organisation. MORE ABOUT TELCO TO FOLLOW. About 25 parishioners, led by Richard Zipfel, have been involved in TELCO activities since we joined.

There is support for the local drop-in centre at Bouverie Road parish and the homeless families’ centre at St John’s. Parishioners bring tinned food to pass on.

We maintain close links with other Christian denominations in the area and with other faiths - there are strong Jewish and Muslim communities nearby.

National organisations on site

After the Liturgy Centre moved, we welcomed Pax Christi, with whom we still retain links. At present the Catholic Association for Racial Justice works downstairs, with the office blessed by the late Cardinal Hume on opening. Parishioners have always been involved with these organisations, doing voluntary work for the Liturgy Centre, Pax Christi and now CARJ.

Links with White Fathers

On founding of the parish in 1973, Canon Winston established a link with St Edward’s College in Totteridge, North London, a training centre for the Missionaries of Africa. Each year two students would come on placement and parishioners would be invited to the college social events and would attend the end of year Mass and Summer barbeque. When St Edward's Colllege relocated to Jerusalem in 2006, The Rector, Father Joe Buholzer, presented the Parish with the Crucifix located behind the Altar and the ceramic Stations of the Cross which hang on the Garden wall. Father Biju was the last placement student who was ordained a priest in Kerala, South India (Father Clive and some parishioners attended his ordination) in September 2006 and is now working in Tanzania.
